The health contingency that has arisen as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and that has already lasted for more than a year, has brought strong repercussions for the regional economy. As a result of the measures that have had to be taken to reduce the speed of spread of the virus and its impact on the markets, various productive sectors have been slowed down, one more than others, and unemployment has tended to rise.

The foregoing has affected the cash flows, investment decisions and purchasing capacity of companies in the Biobío region, where it has been identified that those that have seen their productive and commercial capacity diminish are the micro, small and medium-sized companies that They require special support via ad-hoc economic incentives to reactivate their businesses. In this sense, what is sought with this Initiative is to support them by providing them with tools that help them mitigate the impact of the economic slowdown that we are currently facing.

The executive director of Corfo Biobío, Macarena Vera, said that “we are very happy with this great news that the Biobío Regional Council has delivered to us today so that we can continue working to promote the Biobío business ecosystem. These 3.500 million, which will allow the implementation of the PAR and Active Investment programs, are added to a series of support that the Regional Productive Development Committee has provided to our entrepreneurs, to continue this joint work and that we finally succeed in moving our economy forward " .

For the Seremi de Economía Mauricio Gutiérrez, SMEs are a fundamental focus of the management of the Ministry of Economy, noting that “this regional economic effort approved today by the Biobío Regional Council, is added to the three programs that we already have open in Corfo, which are PAR: Tourism, Women and Creative Industries, for a budget framework of 4.650 million pesos and that will be added to what is coming now in April, a very robust program that as a government we are implementing to help SMEs, a multisectoral on the Sercotec side, where we hope to leverage for the Biobío region between 7000 and 8000 million pesos "

On the other hand, Luis Santibáñez, regional councilor, president of the Gore Development Commission and vice president of the CDPR, indicated that, “the regional councilors are very happy with the possibility of contributing 3500 billion to the actions of the PAR Impulsa and Activa programs. , developed by Corfo through the Development Committee. It seems to us that it is the correct path for the economic reactivation of MSMEs in the Biobío region in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis ”.
