Other professions regulated by the board include Nail Specialist, Facial Specialist, and Full Specialist.

To obtain these licenses, it is required to be over 16 years of age, complete certain hours of training and pass the license exam.

The training time depends on the license, namely:

  1. Cosmetology License: 1.200 hours.
  2. Nail specialist: 180 hours.

In addition to the Florida hairdressing license, the salon also needs a license; even if it is a mobile salon. The latter must comply with all the safety, health, facilities and personnel requirements.

You can also have the business in your home, as long as the zoning and facilities requirements are met. These include separate entrance, having toilet facilities, being separated from the rooms, among others.

Other permits and licenses

In addition to these, other licenses are required to start your business. These include the business license, certificate to collect taxes if you are going to sell merchandise. There are cases in which a permit from the Department of Health is also required; for example, if massage services are offered.

Can you do any work outside of the classroom?

Since July 2020, changes have been made to the law that allow some work to be done outside of a licensed salon; however, the people who carry them out must be licensed.

These tasks are hair shampoo, haircut, hair styling, nail polish removal, nail file, nail polishing, and nail cleaning services.
