  • Tennessee College of Applied Technology-Athens: Has two programs, one on collision repair technology and the other on automotive technology in which technicians will learn to work on computerized electrical systems. There are also other programs at other state venues.
  • Northeast State Community College: is located in Blountville and offers certificates in automotive service and auto body service technology.
  • Southern Adventist University: Offers the top five automotive technology program in the country. Students have eight to ten hours of internship per week preparing to take the ASE certification test.

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification

As an automotive technician, you should get ASE certification or Automotive Service Excellence. Mechanics who have this certification have priority when hiring at a shop.

But what is ASE? It is a non-profit institution whose objective is to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service. It does this by certifying technicians who complete auto repair tests.

To apply for certification as an ASE Master Technician, a candidate must have two years of automotive repair experience and pass the exam. The certification can be in any of the automotive systems.

ASE also offers certification as a Master Mechanic for those individuals who have passed tests in various specialties.

Get the ASE Certification for Tennessee Mechanics represents an advantage since it speaks of the experience and knowledge that the professional has. It's a sign of trust that will attract customers to the shop where you work, who generally prefer to have their vehicle handled by a certified mechanic.

When a shop hires an ASE Master Technician they can display the ASE symbol, which will attract more attention.
